What the Senate was voting on
The Senate voted on whether to waive the budget rules for S.Amdt. 5457, which would bar Justice Department funds from paying settlements to people convicted of assaulting law enforcement officers at or around the Capitol on January 6, 2021. S. 2 would provide $70 billion through FY2029 for immigration enforcement, border security and related activities; the motion was rejected, with supporters 6 votes short of the 60 needed.
