What the House was voting on
The House voted on whether to add H.Amdt. 155 to H.R. 7148, an appropriations bill funding several federal departments and agencies for the rest of FY2026 and extending some programs and authorities. The amendment would bar funds in the bill from being used to implement vehicle “kill switch” requirements. It failed by 53 votes, falling short of the 217 needed; this vote did not decide the bill’s passage.
Add H.Amdt. 155’s funding restriction on vehicle “kill switch” requirements to H.R. 7148.
Leave H.R. 7148’s text unchanged by rejecting H.Amdt. 155.
Bars funds in the act from being used to implement section 24220 of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, including requirements for vehicle “kill switch” technology.
Signed into law on Feb. 3, 2026 as Public Law 119-75, 14 days after it was introduced.
