A University of Houston poll found Ken Paxton narrowly leading John Cornyn among likely Republican voters ahead of the May 26 Texas Senate runoff. The poll also measured voter preferences in other Republican runoff races.
The University of Houston’s School of Public Affairs surveyed 1,300 likely Republican voters statewide. Forty-eight percent said they would vote for Paxton and 45% for Cornyn; the poll also found the candidates tied at 43% when respondents were asked who would be the stronger opponent to Democrat James Talarico in November. The article notes that earlier polling had shown the Senate race close as well.
The poll found Paxton drawing more support from voters who had backed Wesley Hunt in March. It also reported results in Republican runoffs for state attorney general and railroad commissioner, including the shares supporting each candidate and the undecided share in those races.
