Clyburn served as House Majority Whip from 2019 to 2023 and as Assistant House Minority Leader from 2021 to 2024. Clyburn chaired the Congressional Black Caucus from 1999 to 2001.
Clyburn earned a Bachelor of Science from South Carolina State University in 1961.
