Rep. Jim Clyburn said Democrats should prioritize affordability over impeaching President Donald Trump if they win the House, while not ruling impeachment out. He also said he regretted supporting Clarence Thomas and backed expanding the Supreme Court.
Clyburn said Democrats should focus on making housing, education, energy and health care affordable if they regain control of the House. He said he neither ruled impeachment of Trump in nor out, but that it should not be the party’s priority. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries had also declined to rule out impeachment, saying future decisions would be up to House committee leaders.
Clyburn said he was wrong to have supported Clarence Thomas during Thomas’s 1991 confirmation process, and said he supported former Vice President Kamala Harris’s proposal to expand the Supreme Court from nine justices to 13. The article also notes that the House impeached Trump twice during his first term and that the Senate did not convict him either time.
