After losing the Democratic endorsement for North Dakota’s U.S. House race, Vern Thompson won the party’s endorsement for state agriculture commissioner and said he would not challenge Trygve Hammer in the House primary.
The North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party endorsed former state lawmaker Vern Thompson for agriculture commissioner on March 20. Thompson said he would focus on costs, markets, land ownership and what he called a farm crisis, and would not challenge Trygve Hammer in the June 9 House primary.
Hammer received 360 votes at the party convention, compared with 64 for Thompson and 25 for Helene Neville. Incumbent Republican Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring could face a challenge for his party’s endorsement, but no Republican had announced a bid at the time of the report.
