U.S. Senate candidates sparred over tariffs, immigration, farmland and SNAP at a Minnesota Farmfest forum ahead of the Aug. 11 primary. Republican candidate Adam Schwarze was absent after Farmfest said he did not meet its polling threshold.
The forum featured Democratic candidates Angie Craig and Peggy Flanagan and Republican candidates Michele Tafoya and Royce White. The candidates differed over President Donald Trump’s tariffs, immigration and labor policy, and SNAP; Craig and Flanagan also called for transparency around data centers and discussed who should bear their costs.
The candidates agreed on investing in biofuels and opposed California’s Prop 12. Craig criticized Tafoya’s understanding of SNAP and blamed the Trump administration’s ties to the oil industry for delays in year-round E15. White called for mass deportations and criticized Tafoya’s abortion position, while Tafoya defended her views on tariffs and H-2A visas.
