Sen. Amy Klobuchar discussed efforts to repeal tariffs on Canadian imports during Minnesota visits, after the House passed a repeal bill. She also said she and Sen. Rand Paul introduced a bill to delay restrictions on intoxicating hemp products.
At a Feb. 16 news conference in Moorhead, Klobuchar said the House’s 219-211 vote to rescind tariffs on Canada showed political support for repeal, though she said President Donald Trump would most likely veto the bill. She also said Congress could become more important if the Supreme Court upholds the tariffs. Klobuchar described Canada as Minnesota’s top trading partner and said tariffs hurt several industries.
Klobuchar also discussed rising costs with farmers in Breckenridge and said she was working to help them, including by seeking year-round E-15 approval and extending sustainable aviation fuel tax credits. On hemp-derived products, she said she and Sen. Rand Paul introduced a bill to delay a federal ban while regulations are developed.
