Susan Collins is the only member of Maine’s congressional delegation planning to attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. Chellie Pingree, Jared Golden and Angus King are skipping it for different reasons.
Collins plans to attend the address in person, while Pingree plans to join a nearby rally, Golden says he will watch at home, and King says he cannot in good conscience participate. King cited what he called Trump’s disrespect for constitutional rights and the rule of law; Pingree’s office described the rally as counterprogramming to the address.
