The Senate voted on whether to end debate on S.Amdt. 4732 to S.Amdt. 4420 to S. 1383. The amendment would make certain Department of Veterans Affairs or Defense photo cards valid voter ID, delay the federal photo-ID rules’ effective date until one day after enactment, and change a date reference for Election Assistance Commission guidance. S. 1383 would require documentary proof of citizenship to register and photo ID to vote in federal elections. Cloture was rejected, with supporters 7 votes short of the 60 needed.
