Explosive Claim Forces A Tough Question Democrats Can’t Dodge

Secretary Markwayne Mullin warned Tuesday that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will run out of emergency cash by May, and said that Democrats must either agree to fund the department or explain why they want “open borders.” President Donald Trump earlier approved emergency funds from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to pay Homeland Security personnel. More than two months into the DHS shutdown, that money is nearly gone. “But that money is dried up if I continue down this path the first week of May,” Mullin said on Fox & Friends Tuesday. MULLIN says DHS will run out of emergency cash to pay his workforce at the end of April “There’s no more money.” pic.twitter.com/KYdXI8Algt — Jennie Taer (@JennieSTaer) April 21, 2026 DHS is shelling out more than $1.6 billion to pay its workforce every two weeks, the new secretary said, adding, “so the money is going extremely fast.” “After we get through April, which I got two more weeks,” Mullin said. “I’ve got one payroll left, and there is no emergency funds, so the president can’t do another executive order for us to use money because there’s no more money there.” Roughly two-thirds of DHS employees are furloughed, according to Mullin. The Senate is expected to vote as early as this week on a budget blueprint for a reconciliation package to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). However, Republicans and Democrats have yet to reach a final agreement on a long-term funding solution. “What the Democrats need to do is explain to the American people why they want open borders and why they don’t want to deport these illegals that are truly running our cities and running our streets. And at some point, they need to be held accountable because they’re putting the homeland at risk … because our adversaries are taking advantage of the weakness,” he said. Senate Republicans, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), are pushing for a funding package that would extend ICE and CBP funding into the next decade, while also including defense spending, according to The Hill. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has advocated for a “skinny” funding package that is more likely to pass both chambers, the outlet reported. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) has advocated for a “tight” bill, according to The Hill. “Why are we trying to make this more difficult? In fact, if you’ve got a really great set of ideas, then convince Sen. Graham to create another reconciliation vehicle, and we can do it after we dispense with the matter at hand,” he said.

Cory Mills Has Become A Liability Republicans Can’t Ignore

Republicans are on the cusp of expelling Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) for pocketing millions in federal disaster relief funds and funneling them into her campaign. The House Ethics Committee has already found her in violation of House rules, and it will meet on Tuesday to determine her punishment. Speaker Mike Johnson has signaled the full House will take up her expulsion soon. That vote, if it passes, would hand Republicans a sufficient margin in the House to do what needs to be done and expel Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL). The Florida Republican is a walking disaster. In February, police responded to a disturbance at Mills’ D.C. penthouse. His girlfriend was found in the lobby, physically shaking and scared, with fresh bruises on her arm. She later walked back her account and no charges were filed, but the episode exposed more mess: Mills was still married at the time, a fact his own staff didn’t know. Another person who was blindsided was his other girlfriend, former Miss United States Lindsey Langston, who quite reasonably looked at Mills’ conduct and decided to break things off. Mills responded by threatening to release explicit videos of her if she dated anyone else, according to texts reviewed by The Blaze. But domestic violence and threats to release revenge porn barely scratch the surface of Mills’ scandals; there’s also the matter of stolen valor. Mills has repeatedly told voters he is an Army Ranger. He is not. He has claimed attendance at military sniper school and described being “blown up” twice in Iraq, including in campaign videos. Colleagues who served alongside him in contractor roles told investigators the claims were false. He lacked basic sniper knowledge that any graduate of the sniper school would possess. In one IED incident he cited, he wasn’t even in the vehicle that was hit and suffered no injuries. And when DynCorp, the contractor he worked for, demanded proof of the claims he made on his resume, Mills reportedly left his gear on his bed and walked off the job rather than produce documentation. Add to that: his marriage (which he treated so cavalierly) was performed by a radical Islamist cleric, and there are serious questions about whether he converted to Islam around the same time. The scandals have piled up for months. Any one of them would be disqualifying for most professions. Together, they paint a picture of a man whose personal conduct makes him a permanent liability. Mills’ recent votes prove it. Last September, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) brought a censure resolution against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) after Omar suggested Charlie Kirk brought his own assassination on himself. The resolution should have passed with unanimous Republican support. Omar’s comments were grotesque, and yet the resolution failed. Mills was one of only four GOP members to vote no. He proffered frivolous First Amendment arguments to justify his vote and even implied Charlie himself would have agreed. No one who watched the vote believed that for a second. The real reason was obvious: Axios reported days earlier that Democrats planned to counter by threatening Mills with his own censure resolution. Mace herself later said Mills texted her threats after the vote. He wasn’t defending free speech; he was protecting his own hide. When the personal risk to Cory Mills went up, the interests of his constituents and his party went out the window. This is not an isolated lapse. Mills has a pattern of self-dealing with his votes on censure resolutions. Lawyers get disbarred for putting their own interests ahead of their clients’. Members of Congress take an oath to their constituents and the Constitution. When personal scandals create an irreconcilable conflict that distorts their votes, the remedy is the same: removal. Mills will not resign on his own. He has shown zero interest in an honorable exit. The only path left is for the House to do what it must. Expel him. Let Florida voters choose a replacement who can serve without a cloud of personal scandals dictating every vote. The Republican Party will be better for it.  * * * Will Chamberlain is senior counsel at the Article III Project.

Dem Candidate Makes Anti-Trump Union Claim. Gets Called Out Almost Instantly

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is facing significant pushback after making a sweeping claim about how unions feel about President Donald Trump. “You know who’s never caved to Trump’s tyranny? Unions,” the Democrat posted to X on Sunday, alongside a clip highlighting his backing from labor groups. The post was quickly hit with a fact-check on the platform, noting: “Contrary to the claim, Teamsters President Sean O’Brien spoke at the 2024 RNC and endorsed Trump’s DHS nominee Markwayne Mullin,” along with links to NPR and WSBT reports. You know who’s never caved to Trump’s tyranny? Unions. pic.twitter.com/4xS8Hi9NPZ — Dr. Abdul El-Sayed (@AbdulElSayed) April 19, 2026 The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, one of the largest labor unions in the United States, represents 1.3 million members, including truckers. The union’s Detroit branch alone has roughly 36,000 members, according to the Center for Union Facts. While O’Brien was vocal about his support, the union itself did not formally endorse a presidential candidate in 2024. However, internal polling showed “rank-and-file” members favored Trump by nearly 60%, compared to just 34% for then-Vice President Kamala Harris. O’Brien also thanked Trump for nominating Lori Chavez-DeRemer to lead the Department of Labor. “You put words into action. Now let’s grow wages and improve working conditions nationwide,” O’Brien wrote in a post at the time. “North America’s strongest union is ready to work with you every step of the way to expand good union jobs and rebuild our nation’s middle class. Let’s get to work!” Left-leaning users on X quickly pointed out the Teamsters poll, while others criticized the sentiment of the candidate’s post overall. Transportation writer Sam Deutsch responded with an image of the Teamsters poll, simply commenting, “hmmm.” “I don’t think this is factually accurate,” Bloomberg columnist Matthew Yglesias added. “The head of the Teamsters spoke at the RNC and that union refused to endorse democrats in 2024 after the Biden Administration literally bailed out their pension fund but ooooook,” commentator “Hutch” wrote. Some users even posted pictures of O’Brien speaking at the Republican National Committee and meeting with Trump. Other unions, including the National Border Patrol Council and the National Fraternal Order of Police, also backed Trump’s 2024 campaign. The Daily Wire reached out to El-Sayed’s campaign for comment. El-Sayed is in a hotly competitive Democratic primary against Rep. Haley Stevens and state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, as Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI) is retiring at the end of his term. He has secured endorsements from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), and Ro Khanna (D-CA). The eventual Democratic nominee will take on former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) in the general election, currently rated as a “toss-up” by the Cook Political Report.

Democrat Senator Announces Tragic Personal News

Sen. Mark Warner’s (D-VA) daughter died after a long battle with diabetes, the lawmaker and his wife, Lisa Collis, announced on Monday morning. “We are heartbroken beyond words by the passing of our beloved daughter, Madison, 36, after a decades-long battle with juvenile diabetes and other health issues,” the couple said in a statement. “She filled our lives with love and laughter, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void. We are grateful for the loving support of friends and family during this difficult time and ask for privacy as we navigate this profound loss,” they continued. Hundreds of comments and tributes flooded social media offering condolences to the Warner family, including from voices from across the aisle. “Our deepest condolences. We’re keeping your family in our prayers,” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) posted to X. “I am so sorry to hear of Madison’s passing. Please join me in praying for Sen. Warner, Lisa, their family, and everyone who knew and loved Madison,” former Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA) wrote. “Please join me in praying for Senator Warner, his wife Lisa, and all their family and friends mourning today,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) wrote. State-level voices in Virginia also commented on Madison’s death. “Azhar and I are simply heartbroken to learn of Madison Warner’s passing,” Lt. Governor Ghazala Hashmi (D-VA) posted. “We are keeping Mark, Lisa, and all who love Madison in our prayers, and we hope that the love surrounding the Warner/Collis family and the memories of Madison bring comfort in these difficult days,” she added. Little information is available publicly about his daughter. However, Warner has two other daughters and two grandchildren, according to his official website. He was previously the governor of the commonwealth in the early 2000s and has served in the Senate since 2009. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States, with over 94,000 deaths related to the condition in 2024, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

The Republican Rebels Who Sided With Dems, Defying Trump On Haitian Deportations

Ten Republicans joined with Democratic House members on Thursday to pass a resolution that seeks to protect 350,000 Haitians from deportation. The House resolution would require the secretary of Homeland Security to designate Haiti for temporary protected status until 2029. Republicans Don Bacon (NE), Mario Díaz-Balart (FL), Mike Carey (OH), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), Carlos Giménez (FL), Mike Lawler (NY), Nicole Malliotakis (NY), Rich McCormick (GA), Maria Elvira Salazar (FL), and Mike Turner (OH), bucked President Donald Trump and his mass deportation effort and signed onto the resolution. Independent Rep. Kevin Kiley, who caucuses with the Republicans, also voted in favor of the resolution. The Democrats broke out in cheers and applause when the resolution passed. While President Donald Trump would likely veto the resolution if it made it to his desk, the vote reflects a divide in the Republican Party that is complicating the administration’s immigration agenda. The resolution’s passage also comes just one week after Homeland Security revealed that Rolbert Joachin, an illegal immigrant from Haiti accused of murdering a woman with a hammer, was granted temporary protected status by the Biden administration. Joachin’s alleged murder was caught on camera, with footage showing the suspect charge a female gas station attendant in Fort Myers, Florida, before he attacks her. Trump shared the footage of the gruesome murder, calling the killer an “animal … who was released into our Country by the WORST President in History, Crooked Joe Biden.” Last year, the Trump administration moved to terminate temporary protected status for Haitians, but the move was quickly blocked by a federal judge. The Supreme Court is expected to hear oral arguments on the issue this month after the Trump administration appealed the federal judge’s decision, NBC News reported. The White House came out “strongly” opposing the House resolution on Wednesday, telling The Daily Wire, “The President has made it clear that this Administration’s priority is protecting the American people and addressing the criminal threat posed by those who enter this nation with little to no vetting or overstay the visa granted them.” “Numerous Haitian nationals previously granted TPS have been the subject of administrative investigations for fraud, public safety, and national security,” the White House added. Rep. Bacon argued that deporting 350,000 Haitians would worsen “serious workforce shortages.” “I’ve heard from healthcare providers and business leaders across Nebraska, including @OmahaChamber, who are concerned about the impact this would have on patient care and our economy. I don’t see the goodness of deporting people who are here legally, working, and contributing to our country,” Bacon said. Malliotakis also cited concerns about the health care industry if Haitian migrants were deported. “Look, I have a lot of health care workers in my district that are of Haitian descent, that are on TPS and my nursing homes,” she told Fox News. “My health care facilities have said that they’re going to lose skilled staff at a time when there is a shortage. And so it’s the right thing to do for my district, for the health care facilities I represent.” Rep. Lawler added that the deteriorating situation in Haiti would cause “chaos” and “uncertainty” for Haitian migrants if they were forced to go back to their home country. Lawler helped force the vote on the resolution and was joined by Democratic “Squad” member Ayanna Pressley (MA). The proposal was also sponsored by Florida Democratic Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, a Haitian-American who faces expulsion from the House for allegedly funneling millions of dollars into her campaign illegally. The Trump administration has raised concerns about the large number of Haitian migrants in the United States. Trump highlighted reports on Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, during his 2024 election campaign, including on stage during a debate against then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
