A businessman and Air Force National Guard veteran, Buchanan entered Congress in 2007 after more than 30 years in business and chaired the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and Florida Chamber of Commerce.
Buchanan earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Cleary University in 1975 and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Detroit Mercy in 1986. Before entering Congress, Buchanan spent more than 30 years in business, chaired the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and Florida Chamber of Commerce, and served on the board and executive committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
