A former U.S. Army officer and attorney, Pompeo represented Kansas's 4th congressional district in the House from 2011 to 2017, led the CIA from 2017 to 2018, and served as secretary of state from 2018 to 2021.
Pompeo graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1986 and served as a U.S. Army officer before earning a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1994. Pompeo worked as an attorney until 1998, then became an entrepreneur in the aerospace and oilfield industries. Elected to the House in 2010, Pompeo represented Kansas's 4th congressional district from 2011 to 2017.
