A physician, Barrasso practiced orthopedics in Casper before entering public office and served in the Wyoming State Senate from 2003 to 2007.
Born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, Barrasso earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University in 1974 and a medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1978. After a medical residency at Yale University, Barrasso moved to Wyoming and practiced orthopedics in Casper. Barrasso served in the Wyoming State Senate from 2003 to 2007. Appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2007, Barrasso won election to complete the term in 2008 and was reelected in 2012, 2018 and 2024.
