Before entering Congress, Jeffries served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Jeffries chaired the House Democratic Caucus from 2019 to 2023.
Jeffries earned a Bachelor of Arts from Binghamton University in 1992, a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University in 1994, and a Juris Doctor from New York University in 1997. Jeffries worked as a corporate lawyer before entering elected office. Jeffries represented the 57th district in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012 and began serving in the U.S. House in 2013.
