Trone graduated from Furman University in 1977 and earned an MBA from the Wharton School in 1985. Trone founded and co-owned Total Wine & More and served as company president until 2016. After an unsuccessful 2016 Democratic primary campaign for Maryland’s 8th congressional district, Trone won election to the U.S. House from Maryland’s 6th district in 2018 and served from 2019 to 2025, winning reelection in 2020 and 2022.
