Richmond served in the Louisiana House of Representatives and chaired the Congressional Black Caucus from 2017 to 2019.
Richmond earned a Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College in 1995 and a Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School in 1998. Richmond served in the Louisiana House of Representatives before representing Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district in the U.S. House from 2011 to 2021. Richmond chaired the Congressional Black Caucus from 2017 to 2019 and became a co-chair of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign in 2019.
