A retired firefighter, Gimenez led the Miami Fire-Rescue Department, served on the Miami-Dade County Commission from 2003 to 2011, and was county mayor from 2011 to 2020.
Gimenez studied at Barry University and worked as a firefighter before becoming fire chief of the Miami Fire-Rescue Department. Gimenez served on the Miami-Dade County Commission from 2003 to 2011 and as Miami-Dade County mayor from 2011 to 2020.
