Bonuses for Cost-Cutters and Fraud Preventers Act of 2026

  • Reward reports of waste and improper payments: An agency head could award an employee whose report of a wasteful expense leads to agency savings, or whose report prevents an improper payment that would cause the government a financial loss
  • Raise the maximum employee award: The bill raises the maximum cash award under the program from $10,000 to $20,000
  • Define expenses eligible for waste reports: A wasteful expense would be money set aside for salaries and expenses, operations and maintenance, or equivalent accounts that an agency employee identifies as wasteful and the agency’s Chief Financial Officer determines is not needed for its stated purpose
