Six House Democrats joined Republicans on Nov. 12 to pass a funding bill that ended the 43-day government shutdown. Their votes were not needed for passage, and the deal did not extend expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies.
The House passed the funding bill 222-209, ending what the article describes as the nation’s longest-ever shutdown. The six Democrats who voted for it were Henry Cuellar, Donald G. Davis, Jared Golden, Adam Gray, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and Thomas R. Suozzi. The article says all six represent swing districts and that Golden will not seek reelection in 2026.
The deal funds the government through Jan. 30 and guarantees a Senate vote in December on health care subsidies, but does not extend the expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies. It also reverses federal layoffs made by President Trump during the shutdown. The article says the six Democrats’ votes were not necessary for the bill to pass.
