Donald Trump renewed his endorsement of Ed Gallrein against Rep. Thomas Massie and attacked Massie in social-media posts ahead of a Kentucky visit. Massie responded with posts and a campaign ad criticizing Gallrein’s past party registration.
Trump backed Gallrein in the Kentucky Republican primary and criticized Massie in posts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Massie called Trump’s Tuesday post recycled and said a new campaign ad about Gallrein’s party affiliation would run on television and radio. Massie also shared a voter-registration document that he said showed Gallrein registered as an independent in 2016.
Gallrein said he had supported Trump and accused Massie of campaigning against him and voting with Democrats. A White House spokeswoman said Trump’s Kentucky visit would promote his administration’s economic record and efforts to lower prices.
