Thomas Massie predicts more Republicans will vote against party lines after primary season, saying lawmakers face less risk of a primary challenge once elections are over. He also describes his own approach to voting independently and says polling shows support for him despite Donald Trump endorsing his challenger.
In an interview with WHAS11, Massie said the Republican majority’s narrowing margin makes it easier to force votes on measures such as the Epstein Files Transparency Act and on tariff policy. He expects at least a dozen Republican lawmakers may feel more willing to break with the party after primaries, when they are less exposed to a president-backed primary challenge.
Massie, who faces a May primary, said polling shows strong support for him in his district despite Trump endorsing Ed Gallrein. Massie described his voting approach as based on conservative principles and said Gallrein has criticized him for sometimes voting with Democrats.
