Georgia Senate candidate Mike Collins fired a campaign staffer after an account associated with his campaign posted an inflammatory reply about an adviser to rival Derek Dooley’s PAC. Collins called the post unauthorized and apologized.
The reply, posted from the “Mike Collins War Room” account, was responding to a poll showing Collins five points ahead of Dooley before the Republican runoff. It alluded to accusations against former “Today” anchor Matt Lauer made by the wife of the PAC adviser who shared the poll. The post was later deleted.
Collins called the post “despicable and unauthorized,” said it did not represent his values or the campaign’s, apologized, and said he had made staffing changes. Other outlets confirmed the staffer was dismissed. The story also notes that Collins and Dooley were the top vote-getters in the Republican primary to face Sen. Jon Ossoff.
