Nancy Mace called for Rep. Tony Gonzales to resign after a report described explicit text messages between him and a former staffer who later died by suicide. Reps. Lauren Boebert and Anna Paulina Luna also condemned Gonzales or called for his resignation.
24Sight News reported that text messages recovered from former aide Regina Santos-Aviles’s phone showed explicit conversations with Gonzales, including a request for a “sexy pic.” The article says Santos-Aviles later died by suicide. Mace called the messages “disgusting and inexcusable” and said Gonzales should resign and be held accountable.
Boebert also called for Gonzales to resign, while Luna wrote on X that members of Congress should condemn a sitting member asking a staffer for explicit photos. The article notes that Mace is running for governor of South Carolina and that a Gonzales resignation could further narrow the House Republican majority.
