Dillan Vancil defeated Julie Bickelhaupt in the Republican primary for Illinois’ 17th District and will face Rep. Eric Sorensen in the general election. Unofficial results gave Vancil 57% of the vote and Bickelhaupt 43%.
Vancil defeated Bickelhaupt in the March 17 Republican primary, according to unofficial results. Vancil received 18,421 votes, or 57%, across 16 jurisdictions; Bickelhaupt received 13,431 votes, or 43%. The winner will challenge Rep. Eric Sorensen in the November general election.
Both candidates campaigned on improving affordability. Vancil said his priorities included health care, energy and gas prices, and policies benefiting farmers and small businesses. Bickelhaupt described herself as a family farmer and small-business owner and promised “results-focused leadership.”
