Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan won Minnesota’s Democratic U.S. Senate primary, defeating Rep. Angie Craig. The race highlighted divisions over corporate money, immigration policy and the direction of the party.
Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan defeated Rep. Angie Craig in Minnesota’s Democratic Senate primary. Flanagan pledged to challenge corporate influence and President Donald Trump; Craig had argued that her record winning tough House races gave her the experience to bring change to Washington.
The candidates’ positions on immigration and outside spending featured prominently. Flanagan criticized Craig’s vote for the Laken Riley Act, which Craig later repudiated after federal immigration officers killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Flanagan will face Republican primary winner Michele Tafoya in the general election.
