Andy Barr won Kentucky’s Republican Senate primary, with 64% of the vote when the Associated Press called the race. He will face Democrat Charles Booker in the general election to succeed retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell.
Barr’s campaign benefited from President Donald Trump’s endorsement and a large spending advantage. Former Attorney General Daniel Cameron finished second with 28%; Barr’s campaign and aligned PACs spent at least roughly $27 million on ads, compared with less than $1 million for Cameron. The race focused heavily on candidates’ loyalty to Trump.
