A senior advisor to Nancy Mace’s South Carolina governor campaign said he was resigning, alleging she broke payment and political commitments. Mace’s campaign disputed his account and said he had not done work for the campaign.
J. Austin McCubbin said he was breaking with Mace’s campaign out of loyalty to President Donald Trump, alleging that Mace had gone back on her word to pay him and had used his name and Team Trump status. He also criticized what he described as her break with the Trump-aligned wing of the party.
Mace’s campaign said McCubbin had not raised money or shown up to work, and that it had rejected his request for $10,000 a month. The campaign also said Mace had stood with Trump since the beginning and quoted McCubbin previously describing her as highly supportive of Trump.
