Vice President J.D. Vance visited Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District, echoed President Trump’s State of the Union themes and endorsed Rep. Derrick Van Orden. The visit comes as Van Orden and Rebecca Cooke prepare to run again in a competitive race.
Vance visited central Wisconsin two days after Trump’s State of the Union address and eight months before the midterm elections. He called Van Orden a “dear friend” and said Van Orden had asked him to make a video for the congressional campaign. Van Orden won the district in 2022 and is running again against Rebecca Cooke, whom he narrowly defeated in 2024. The Cook Political Report rates the race a tossup.
Vance echoed Trump’s themes of affordability and border security and answered questions about data centers, rural hospitals and agriculture. Senator Tammy Baldwin criticized Van Orden before the event, saying Wisconsin residents “deserve independent leadership.” Vance framed the November election as a choice between people fighting corruption, fraud and illegal immigration and government for American citizens.
