President Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Mike Collins over Derek Dooley in Georgia’s Republican Senate runoff, which is scheduled for Tuesday. The winner will face incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff in November.
Trump endorsed Collins on Sunday, calling him a “true FRIEND, FIGHTER, and WARRIOR” in a Truth Social post. Trump said he did not endorse Dooley because Dooley had lived outside Georgia for much of his life and had said Trump lost the state in 2020. Trump also criticized Ossoff in the post.
Collins and Dooley advanced to the runoff after the late-May primary, where Collins received about 10 percentage points more of the vote and Rep. Buddy Carter placed third. Dooley is backed by Gov. Brian Kemp, while Collins’s campaign has criticized Dooley’s political experience. The runoff winner will face Ossoff in November.
