Wendy Gooditis suspended her campaign for Congress and endorsed Rep. Suhas Subramanyam after a proposed district map placed her home in his district. She also urged voters to support the redistricting referendum.
Gooditis, a former Virginia delegate seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge Rep. Ben Cline, announced Wednesday that she was suspending her congressional bid and would support Subramanyam. She said the proposed map placed her home in a district with a strong incumbent who represents her values, and praised Subramanyam’s ability to serve the redrawn district.
Gooditis urged voters to support the referendum on the new map, saying it was important to winning a House majority. The Virginia House of Delegates passed House Bill 29 on Tuesday, which would let voters decide on the map in an April 21 referendum; the state Senate had not yet acted on the bill.
