President Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Randy Feenstra for Iowa’s Republican gubernatorial nomination ahead of the June 2 primary. Feenstra was trailing Zach Lahn in a recent poll and in fundraising for the latest reporting period.
Trump announced his endorsement in a Friday social media post, listing policy priorities he said Feenstra would pursue as governor. Feenstra thanked Trump and said he would work with him to advance the “America First” agenda. The article said the endorsement could help Feenstra in the June 2 Republican primary.
A poll conducted May 27 and 28 found Zach Lahn leading Feenstra, 24% to 22%, with 27% undecided. Campaign finance reports showed Lahn raised more than Feenstra from Jan. 1 through May 14, though Feenstra had raised more overall during the election. Iowa Democrats criticized Trump’s endorsement as too late to help Feenstra.
