Police arrested a man after he sprayed Rep. Ilhan Omar with liquid at a Minneapolis town hall. Omar continued speaking after a break, while police investigated the incident as an assault.
Omar was criticizing ICE and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and called for Noem to resign when a man stepped toward her and sprayed her with liquid from what police described as a syringe. A security guard subdued him, and police arrested him on a third-degree assault charge. Omar was uninjured and continued the event after declining medical attention.
Omar said she would not give in to threats. Trump, who has repeatedly targeted her in public remarks and social media posts, called her a fraud and speculated that she had arranged to be sprayed. Police said forensic scientists were gathering evidence. The story also reported that Capitol Police investigated nearly 58% more threat-related instances in 2025 than in 2024.
