Rep. Pramila Jayapal accused Attorney General Pam Bondi of allowing Justice Department surveillance of lawmakers reviewing Epstein files and of mishandling redactions. Jayapal called for a new review process and a full investigation of people named in the files.
In an interview, Jayapal said a document Bondi held during a congressional hearing contained Jayapal’s search history from reviewing Epstein files. She called the tracking unacceptable and said she wanted a process that would let lawmakers review the files without DOJ surveillance. House Speaker Mike Johnson had publicly said the surveillance would be inappropriate if it occurred; Jayapal said she believed there was bipartisan support for changing the process.
Jayapal also said the files exposed survivors’ private information while redacting information about powerful people. She argued that the Transparency Act required those redactions to be handled differently and said Bondi did not answer her questions or apologize to survivors. Jayapal called for investigating everyone named in the files, including people from both parties, and accused President Donald Trump of politicizing the matter and resisting release of the files.
