A Senate Leadership Fund super PAC announced another $14 million for Ohio’s Senate race, bringing its commitment to $93 million as Republican Jon Husted faces Democrat Sherrod Brown in a closely watched contest.
The Senate Leadership Fund, aligned with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, said it was adding $14 million to its investment in the Ohio race. The article describes the contest between Senator Jon Husted and Democratic challenger Sherrod Brown as unusually competitive, with polling and election ratings showing a close race. The fund’s executive director praised Husted and criticized Brown; the group did not immediately respond to Newsweek’s question about whether the spending reflected concerns about Husted’s standing or data-center opposition.
The article says the race could affect Republicans’ effort to retain their narrow Senate majority. It reports that Democratic-aligned Senate Majority PAC had added $20 million to its Ohio advertising plans, while nearly $250 million had already been spent on race advertising and another $137 million was booked through Election Day. An internal Republican memo identified opposition to Ohio data centers as a potential vulnerability for Husted.
