Donald Trump praised Senator Ted Cruz when asked about a report that Cruz was laying groundwork for a possible 2028 presidential campaign. Trump called Cruz a friend but said it was too early to discuss whether he would support him.
Axios reported that Cruz was laying groundwork for a 2028 presidential bid by emphasizing his feud with Tucker Carlson and his support for an interventionist foreign policy. The report said that this positioning could put Cruz at odds with Vice President J.D. Vance, whom it described as a Carlson ally and a likely Republican frontrunner.
Asked about the report, Trump called Cruz a “very good guy” and “a very good friend,” while saying he had not spoken with Cruz about a campaign and that it was too early to decide whether he might support him. The article also recalls their 2016 primary fight and quotes Cruz criticizing antisemitism and isolationist views in a speech last month.
