Loveland businessman Tim Veldhuizen is launching an unaffiliated campaign for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District seat held by Lauren Boebert. He says he would offer voters a centrist alternative and outlined positions on immigration, affordability, health care and agriculture.
Veldhuizen, a longtime Loveland business owner with no experience in public office, says his work advocating in Congress for the Colorado Restaurant Association gave him a view of how Washington operates. To reach the ballot as an unaffiliated candidate, he must collect 1,500 valid signatures during a petition window beginning in March. He estimates he could win a three-way race with 38% of the vote.
Veldhuizen says he favors practical compromises on immigration, including a system for people to enter and work legally. He criticizes both what he describes as Boebert’s approach to deportation and lax enforcement under President Joe Biden. He also says the campaign will focus on affordability, health care, tariffs and water protections for farming.
