Donald Trump reversed his earlier opposition to Rep. Jeff Hurd and endorsed him in Colorado’s 3rd District race after Hope Scheppelman agreed to suspend her campaign. Hurd thanked Trump, while Democrat Alex Kelloff said the announcement showed his campaign’s work was gaining traction.
Trump said he had spoken with Scheppelman and offered her and her husband positions in his administration. Scheppelman said she would suspend her campaign at Trump’s request, but said she would run again in 2028 if Hurd did not change his voting record. Hurd had previously lost Trump’s endorsement after voting to rebuke the president’s tariffs on Canada.
Hurd thanked Trump for the endorsement and said they shared goals including securing the border, expanding American energy, and helping working families. Kelloff, the Democratic candidate, said Trump’s announcement reflected concern that Democrats could win the seat. The article says the district has long been a strong Republican area and that Hurd is now running unopposed in the primary.
