A lawyer for Ken Paxton’s wealth manager urged a Collin County court to reject James Talarico’s campaign request to unseal Paxton’s depositions, arguing the campaign lacks standing. Talarico’s lawyers say the records are important for voters as Paxton campaigns for Senate.
State Rep. Mitch Little, representing Paxton’s wealth manager, argued in a court filing that Talarico’s campaign lacks standing to seek the release of Paxton’s depositions and that the transcripts are not public court records. Talarico’s campaign says the depositions should be public because they may raise questions about Paxton’s conduct and fitness for office.
The depositions concern disputes dating back several years, including Paxton’s 2019 testimony about providing records from a former client. Paxton’s campaign spokesperson called a Wall Street Journal report about that testimony “blatant lies,” while Little said the records were not privileged and there was no conflict of interest. The court had not yet ruled on the campaign’s request.
