President Trump again endorsed Rep. Jeff Hurd in Colorado’s 3rd District and said he would bring Hurd’s challenger, Hope Scheppelman, into his administration. Scheppelman then suspended her campaign, leaving Hurd set to face no Republican opponent in June.
Trump announced his renewed support for Hurd after previously backing Scheppelman. He said Scheppelman and her husband would join his administration in a role yet to be determined. Scheppelman said she was suspending her campaign and urged Hurd to support Trump; Hurd thanked the president for his support.
The article reports that Hurd had opposed tariffs on Canada in a House floor vote, after which Trump withdrew his earlier endorsement and backed Scheppelman. With Scheppelman’s withdrawal, Hurd is set to run unopposed in the Republican primary, while Democrats Alex Kelloff and Dwayne Romero are set to compete for the chance to face him in November.
