SOURCE CHECK
TAP FOR WHYCredibility rates Dailynews, which republished this story. The other scores rate the article itself.
Daily News is an established regional newspaper with an identified author and a clear local-news role. This page is a standardized candidate questionnaire rather than independently reported coverage, which limits what can be inferred about its reporting practices from this article.
- Source type — Established regional newspaper; local-news source type supports a solid institutional baseline.
- Transparency — The page identifies the author and explains that the candidate answers may be edited.
- Editorial standards — A consistent questionnaire format presents the questions and candidate’s answers directly, but the page itself offers little evidence of broader editorial practices.
The piece transparently presents the candidate’s direct answers to a broad set of questions, but it is a questionnaire rather than independent reporting. It supplies little outside evidence or competing perspective with which to assess the candidate’s claims.
HOW WE SCORE ↗The format gives Fenner extensive space to explain her positions, but does not include opposing views, independent verification, or responses from other candidates. It is clear that this is a candidate questionnaire, though the result is necessarily one perspective.
- Source diversity — Fenner’s answers are the central source; no outside sources or competing candidate responses appear in this text.
- Counterarguments presented — The questions invite the candidate to explain her views but do not present substantive counterarguments.
- Opinion vs reporting — The questionnaire format makes clear that the policy positions are the candidate’s own statements.
The page uses a standardized question-and-answer format and does not add an editorial verdict about the candidate’s positions. The candidate’s answers express her own views, but that alone does not establish a lean in the article’s framing.
- Language tone — Questions and answers are presented in straightforward language without an evident editorial attack or endorsement.
- Framing — The questionnaire covers a range of policy areas using direct questions to the candidate.
- Source selection — The candidate is the sole source because the page is a questionnaire, not a reported debate of the issues.

Elizabeth Fenner, a Democratic candidate for California’s 37th Congressional District, answered a questionnaire ahead of the June primary. She outlined positions on issues including climate change, immigration, voting rules, military action, and congressional stock trading.
The Southern California News Group said it compiled questions for candidates seeking to represent readers ahead of the June primary. Fenner, a 61-year-old library technician and non-incumbent, identified polarization, global warming, and homelessness as major concerns and described proposals on each. She also called for a path to citizenship for some long-term undocumented residents and opposed the SAVE Act, saying its proof-of-citizenship requirements could restrict voting rights.
In other answers, Fenner supported a ban on individual-stock trading by lawmakers, their families, and staff; argued for stronger congressional oversight of military action; and supported banning social media accounts for children under 16. She also discussed disaster aid for California, term limits, and steps to improve neighborhood safety.
