Jasmine Crockett announced a run for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination in Texas, setting up a primary contest with James Talarico. She also criticized Republican Sen. John Cornyn and President Donald Trump during her campaign launch.
Crockett announced her Senate bid at an event in Dallas on Monday, Dec. 8. She said she believed a Democrat could win statewide and described her campaign as focused on Texans and on opposing the Trump administration. James Talarico welcomed her into the race.
Crockett criticized Cornyn for supporting Trump and said the Texas congressional map redrawn after Trump’s push had displaced her from her district without stopping her. Cornyn predicted Crockett would not exceed the 42% of the vote Kamala Harris received in the 2024 presidential race. Other Texas Republicans running for the Senate seat, including Ken Paxton and Wesley Hunt, also commented on Crockett’s entry.
