Massie earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science in 1993 and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1996 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Massie worked on computer simulation, founded a startup based on that work, and returned to Kentucky after selling the company.
