Steve Israel
Steve Israel represented New York in the U.S. House from 2001 to 2017.
Israel served on the Huntington Town Board beginning in 1993 and later led two House committees. After leaving Congress in 2017, Israel worked as a political commentator, lobbyist, author and bookseller.
Israel attended Nassau Community College in 1978, Syracuse University in 1979 and George Washington University, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1982. Israel served on the Huntington Town Board beginning in 1993 and represented New York in the U.S. House from 2001 to 2017. Israel led the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee during 2011–2015 and the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee during 2015–2017. In 2017, Israel joined CNN as a political commentator. In 2019, Israel became director of Cornell University’s Institute of Politics and Global Affairs.
