Pat Roberts represented Kansas in the U.S. Senate from 1997 to 2021, after serving in the House from 1981 to 1997.
A former newspaper reporter and Marine Corps first lieutenant, Roberts served in the U.S. House from 1981 to 1997 before serving in the Senate from 1997 to 2021.
Roberts earned a Bachelor of Arts from Kansas State University in 1958 and studied at the University of Kansas. After serving as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps, Roberts worked as a newspaper reporter and for Representative Keith Sebelius. Elected to the U.S. House in 1980, Roberts served from 1981 to 1997 and chaired the House Agriculture Committee.
