A former attorney, Johnson served on an ethics panel with the Southern Baptist Convention between 2004 and 2012 and won election to state legislative office in 2015.
Johnson graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in 1995 and completed a Juris Doctor at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1998. Johnson then pursued legal work representing private clients and the Alliance Defending Freedom, while also serving on an ethics panel within the Southern Baptist Convention between 2004 and 2012. Johnson entered public office in the Louisiana House of Representatives, serving from 2015 to 2017. After winning election to the U.S. House in 2016, Johnson took office in 2017. From 2019 to 2021, Johnson led the Republican Study Committee, and later held the role of House Republican Conference vice chair from 2021 to 2023.
