Michael F. Bennet has represented Colorado in the U.S. Senate since January 2009. Ranking member of two Senate subcommittees: Taxation and IRS Oversight; and Conservation, Forestry, Natural Resources, and Biotechnology.
A former attorney, Bennet served as chief of staff to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper from 2003 to 2005 and as superintendent of Denver Public Schools beginning in 2005.
Bennet earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University in 1987 and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1993. After working for Ohio Governor Richard Celeste, Bennet served as a law clerk and as counsel to the U.S. deputy attorney general. Bennet was chief of staff to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper from 2003 to 2005, then became superintendent of Denver Public Schools in 2005.
