Marco Rubio
Marco Rubio has served as Secretary of State since January 21, 2025. Previously represented Florida in the U.S. Senate (2011–2025).
Rubio served in the Florida House, including as speaker from 2006 to 2008, and represented Florida in the U.S. Senate from 2011 to 2025.
Rubio earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in 1993 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law in 1996. Before state office, Rubio served as a West Miami city commissioner in the 1990s. Rubio joined the Florida House of Representatives in 2000, served as majority leader from 2003 to 2006, and was speaker from 2006 to 2008. After leaving the legislature, Rubio taught at Florida International University. Rubio won election to the U.S. Senate in 2010 and served from 2011 to 2025.
