Chavez-DeRemer graduated from California State University, Fresno, in 1990 and worked in various jobs before election to the Happy Valley City Council in 2004. Elected mayor in 2010, Chavez-DeRemer served from 2011 to 2019. Chavez-DeRemer ran unsuccessfully for the Oregon House in 2016 and 2018, then won election to the U.S. House in 2022 and served from 2023 to 2025.
