Jerry Moran has represented Kansas in the U.S. Senate since 2011, after serving in the House from 1997 to 2011. Chair of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee; chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Aviation, Space, and Innovation.
A lawyer, Moran served in the Kansas Senate from 1989 to 1997, including as majority leader from 1995 to 1997, before serving in the U.S. House from 1997 to 2011.
Moran earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1976 and a law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1981. Moran worked in private law and served as a state special assistant attorney general from 1982 to 1985 and deputy attorney of Rooks County from 1987 to 1995. Moran served in the Kansas Senate from 1989 to 1997, including as majority leader from 1995 to 1997. He signed the delegation’s letter supporting federal disaster aid for storm damage in Kansas City, Kansas.

Moran said he contacted the Homeland Security secretary and received assurances about the warrants used in the southwest Kansas arrests.

Moran supported the farm legislation and urged senators to focus on agriculture rather than party control or upcoming elections.

Moran said he urged the administration to recognize Bombardier’s importance to Kansas workers and manufacturing.
